Curriculum

The British School of Geneva follows the English National Curriculum for students aged 5 to 16.

Secondary curriculum

In the first three years of Secondary (often known as Key Stage 3) all students follow a broad curriculum of general academic subjects.
The core curriculum for years 7,8 and 9 consists of the following subjects:

  • Mathematics
  • English

  • Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • Computers (ICT)
  • Citizenship
  • Physical education

At the end of year 9 the curriculum content becomes more specific as students begin a two-year programme (Key Stage 4) leading to IGCSE examinations. If you would like more information about Key Stages 1,2,3 and 4 you can find all of the details including subject specifications and attainment levels by visiting www.qcda.org.uk.

Wednesday afternoons have been deliberately kept free of regular tuition in both the Primary and Secondary sections in order to allow students to pursue subjects or activities which are not offered as part of the main curriculum.
We do however offer a range extra-curricular activities on a Wednesday afternoon.

A-Level curriculum

All A-Level courses are run over 2 years with AS exams being taken at the end of year 1 and A2 exams at the end of year 2. Students can choose the number of A-Levels they study and should the need arise it is also possible to re-take individual subjects and even individual units within these subjects. Subjects are offered according to student preferences and may include (other subjects may be available on demand):

  • Mathematics
  • English Language and Literature
  • History
  • Biology
  • Psychology
  • Chemistry
  • Business and Economics
  • French
